The Patriots had had an unbeaten season with a record of 18-0, and as they went in to face the New York Giants, not many people thought that their record could be dented.
Despite their marvellous season up to then, the Patriots have been marred by allegations of cheating made against their Head Coach Bill Belichick. His ungracious behaviour, vanishng from the scene just before the final moment, has not helped to endear himself to football fans.
