Baron Davis Opts Out of Golden State Warriors Contract

The basketball world is stunned by Baron Davis' decision to opt out of some $17.8 million owed him in the final season of his six -year contract with the Golden State Warriors.

As a result, Davis is now an unrestricted free agent. Warriors Coach Don Nelson is surprised by his decision, with such a large sum of money involved. He is not the only one.

The talk is that Davis would go the route of the Los Angeles Clippers, a move back to his hometown where he was a UCLA star. The Clippers want him are also reconsidering their plans. To make space to sign on Davis, they will probably have to renounce Corey Maggette, but keep a low-level deal for Elton Brand.

US Basketball Player Brian Dux's Benefit Match

As posted earlier a benefit match for American basketball player Brian Dux was to be held on December 28. Dux had been in a coma since suffering severe brain injuries in a road accident. He has been back in the US since the end of November.

His condition has improved. He is able to speak more clearly and there is movement in his left hand fingers. He was even able to make a call to his team-mate just before Christmas. His family are hoping for a full recovery but realise that this will be a long process.

The fund-raising match was played between Dux's team Guildford Heat and an All Stars team from the British Basketball League, with the home team winning 108-92.

The beneifit match raised about 12,000 pounds.

Benefit Game in UK for American basketball player

American Brian Dux, playing for the Guildford Heat Basketball Club in Surrey, UK, has been in a coma for two weeks after suffering serious injuries in a car crash, with fears that this may lead to permanent disability.

The basketball club is arranging a 'Brian Dux Benefit Game' on 28 December. The game will be between Guidford Heat and a BBL All Stars team, to be played at Guildford Spectrum.

All proceeds from ticket sales and sales of other items will go to Brian's family, who have flown from the States to be with Brian.

Brian's team members' morale has been severely dented by his condition, and the team lost heavily in a European match game against Spain's Jovenut Badalona on Tuesday.

All best wishes to Brian.
